Favorite Fall Skincare Buys…On A Budget

IMG_2506

I don’t know if I’m alone when I say this, but whenever the seasons change, my skin kind of freaks out. I don’t know what it is, but during the beginning of each season, my skin doesn’t know what is happening and ends up either getting really dry or super oily and break out. Right now, it is kind of in between. It is on the dry side, but I’ve been getting small break outs here and there. So, to combat my ugly skin, I’ve been using these gems above, and they have been really making a difference!

1. First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser $9: I bought this stuff awhile ago, but just started using it. I already love it. I use it as my morning cleanser and it works so well for just that. It makes me face feel so clean. It doesn’t dry me out or leave any oiliness behind, which is always a plus!

2. Garnier Blackhead Eliminating Scrub $6: This stuff does a really good job at keeping my breakouts at bay. I do have an issue with blackheads around my nose, and this has yet to eliminate them. But it keeps the rest of my face clear without drying it out, with is great for this time of year.

3. Vitamin E Oil: Whenever my face is feeling extra dry, I’ll rub a small amount of this into my skin before going to bed. It works really well overnight and doesn’t clog my pores. Also, its really cheap and you can get it just about anywhere!

4. Say Yes To Grapefruit Scrub $8 (for full size) : I got this as a sample when I bought some of their face wipes, and I’m really glad that I did. I use it probably twice a week and it works really well to brighten my skin and get rid of hyper-pigmentation. The smell is a little weird, but the results are well worth it!

How To: Fall Bridal Makeup

Breakfast at Vogue

I usually wouldn’t think to do a bridal post, but I was contacted by a company called Lover.ly asking if I wanted to do a beauty post. I love doing beauty posts, so I thought, why not? I’m planning on not getting married for awhile, so this makeup look is a little more versatile. I wanted to do something simple and soft. I think bridal makeup looks best when it is simple and just accentuates your natural beauty.

If you haven’t checked out Lover.ly, it’s a pretty cool website. If you are getting married, this site will most definitely be helpful. They have tons of inspiration and helpful tips for planning, so you should definitely check it out if you haven’t already. I found some pretty amazing dresses on their site as well. My favorites are here, here and here! I  used them for inspiration for this makeup look. I loved how soft the fabrics were on all of the dresses. I like when wedding dresses aren’t really structured. I like when they are soft and have a more bohemian feel to them , which all of these dresses do. I decided to keep my makeup soft and natural as if I were going to be wearing one of the dresses. If you’d like to see more dresses on Lover.ly, you can check out their wedding dress page here!

Here is my look, step by step!

how to: bridal beauty:

Before I even put foundation on, I made sure to exfoliate my face and moisturize. I also used the Clinque Pore Eraser Primer to make sure my makeup stayed in place and my pores wouldn’t be visible all day.

step 1: Apply your favorite foundation that has little to no SPF. I used Bobbi Brown Liquid foundation that has an SPF of 15. I tested it with my camera and there was no flashback. Testing your makeup with a flash is a good idea to do for any big event! This foundation is medium coverage, which is something I like since I have freckles. I think it looks more natural when my freckles are peeking through.

step 2: Next, I applied my Sonia Kashuk concealer in the areas that needed a bit more coverage. I then used my Real Techniques Blending Brush to blend it into my foundation. I made sure to hit the places that get the most red during the day for me, like my nose and chin. I wanted a little bit more coverage than usual for this look. I then powdered my face with a matte powder. I used Rimmel’s Stay Matte Powder. I’ve found that it works really well for my oily skin

step 3-5: Contour! I used the same steps from my previous How To: Contour post. Here is the link to refer back to. I also used the same products!

(Between these two steps I filled in my brows. My tutorial for that here!)

step 6: I used the Maybelline Color Tattoo in the champagne color all over my lid. This stuff is really great to use as a base because it is a two for one, which I love. It acts as a primer and shadow all at the same time! I then used MAC’s All That Glitters on top to set the color tattoo.

step 7: Next, I used a Tarte shadow in my crease that is a rose/taupe color. I think it goes really well with green eyes and looks really natural as a crease color.

(Between these steps I put on liquid liner. You can find my step by step tutorial for that here!)

step 8: I concealed under my eyes last because it really makes the makeup look very crisp, especially the eye liner. I used Clinique’s Under Eye Concealer. I love this stuff because it barely creases. I have yet to find an under eye concealer that doesn’t crease at all. If you know of any, let me know in the comments below!

step 9: Last is lips! I used a MAC shade (the name rubbed off 😦 so sadly I don’t know what color it is) and a NYX lip pencil in the shade Natural.

I also applied false lashes, but you can always just use mascara!

I hope you guys enjoyed this even though it was a little different. Let me know what you think of the look in the comments below!

i’m back from new york, sadly, and i’ve been spending the last few days wishing that i was back. we spent most of our time there walking around and eating tons of amazing food. i think this time around, we had some even better food than the last time, especially the brunch. new york totally does brunch right. here are some photos from one of the days we spent walking around central park and eating shake shack. so basically, it was a really great day. i’ve been wishing a shake shack would open up over here in california because i secretly think its so much better than in and out. their french fries are amazing. i hope you guys enjoy this little post and let me know what you think in the comments below!

We are still in New York, but I’d thought I’d share some photos from the other day. We went over to Washington Square Park and took some photos. It has been so nice here, I seriously love it. I wish I could just stay and never leave.

I’ll be applying for schools in April for out of state, so hopefully I’ll get into a school in New York and then move here by next summer. Hopefully, that’s the plan. I just love the atmosphere of New York and the architecture and of course the food is amazing!

I hope you guys enjoy these photos and if you like my outfit, you can see where to buy everything here!

I’ve been really liking the way black and white photography looks these days. I think it gives some sort of mystery to the image, which is cool. I think when we go to New York next week we are going to get some really cool photos, especially in black and white. I’m pretty darn excited to leave. I’m definitely most excited about the food and just the atmosphere of New York.

If you have never been to New York, I think it is something that someone should do at least once in their life. It is such an amazing place to be. The food, the people, the architecture. Everything is seriously so amazing. It’s kind of hard to explain, but if you have been there, I think you know what I mean.

Sorry if this post is a little all over the place, but I’m in the middle of watching game 7 of the World Series, so it’s a little hard to pay attention to typing. I’m from the Bay Area, so obviously I want the Giants to win. Duh.

Let me know what you think of the B & W photography in the comments below, and also the outfit!

How To: Zombie Makeup

zombie makeup

I haven’t done a How To in awhile, so I’m pretty excited for this one. Especially since it is Halloween themed, and, that this is my first video How To video. So exciting, I know. I was going to do photos, but I thought that a video would be easier to follow. Recreating this look is surprisingly easy as long as you have the right materials.

Here are the things that you will need:

-Liquid Latex

-Face Paint in Black, Red, White, Blue or Green

-Lighter Foundation/Powder

-Fake Blood

-Sponges

-Tissue Paper

-Makeup brushes for blending

Sorry about the music and the cropped video, it was the only angle I could get the camera at where I wasn’t in it and the backdrop was fully in it. Let me know if you like the video and if you want to see more!

Top Links This Week

PicMonkey Collage

I spend a lot of time on the internet, maybe even too much time. My bookmark list is seriously so long. I’ve found so many good links and articles over the past few months that I thought I should start sharing with everyone, because why not? I’m thinking of maybe starting doing this once a week, or maybe once a month. What do you guys think? Personally, I love posts like these because then I’m able to find some great articles and new websites to follow, which for an internet junkie, is a total plus. So, let’s get started shall we?

1. How To Manage Your Time: Who doesn’t want to know how to manage their time more wisely. Here is an article on Refinery29 on how to do just that.

2. Irish Pancakes:  A mix between pancakes and english muffins. Who wouldn’t love that? Need to try this recipe ASAP.

3. Katelyn Brooke: Found a new blog to follow! Yay! I’m a sucker for a blog with a great design and this one has just that.

4. Best NYC Brunch Spots: I’m going to New York next week so I’ve been searching the web for great places to eat, and all of these spots look amazing!

5. Spiced Latte Hand Soap DIY: Spiced. Latte. Hand soap. Seriously, so perfect for Fall. Such a great DIY too for a rainy Fall day.

6. Things Your Forgetting To Clean: Definitely read through this list and could check off everything. Oops.

Let me know how you guys felt about this post! I really liked putting it together, actually. Let me know what you think in the comments below!

Halloween Costume Idea: Dead James Bond Couple

Hey Everyone! So Halloween is less than a week away and I’m so excited! It’s definitely my favorite holiday, by far. We have been trying to come up with some ideas for couple costumes and here is one idea. He is James Bond and I’m his dead Bond girl. It’s hard to tell in the photos at the bottom, but I have gun shot wounds on my neck. It was actually a lot of fun to dress up as dead, I’ve done the makeup on others before, but not on myself. I also did my friend Katie’s makeup, whose pictured in the first couple photos, and made her look dead, so that was fun.

If you want to see a tutorial on how to make fake wounds, I would love to do a post about it. It’s surprisingly pretty easy, and you don’t need too much stuff either. I might just do it anyway even if I don’t get any requests, just so I can do it again because its so much fun seeing the transformation! I’m also thinking of doing an easy pin curls tutorial…but we will see how much time I have this week.

Let me know what you guys think of our costume in the comments below, and also if you would like a makeup tutorial!

A Quick Outfit of The Day

Hello Everyone!
I hope you are liking the brand new website. I’m still getting used to WordPress, but I do think I will end up really enjoying it. So, I was going through my old photo’s and realized that I never posted this outfit post and figured that I really should because the dress I’m wearing is one of my favorites! It’s from Gap and it is one of the most comfortable things that I own, by far! Dresses are great to wear in the Fall time because I think they look so good with a long cardigan or a jacket.
Let me know what you think of the outfit in the comments below!
